Many
materials are available for use in blocking the ram and
upper die of a press. 6061-T6 aluminum offers much
higher extruded strength per cubic inch than any other
known press safety block material on the market.
When static load capacity of the material is compared,
aluminum becomes the clear choice. |
|
|
How to spec your Saf-T-Block
requirements:
You can download a PDF worksheet here and take it to
your press(es).
A. Determine the static load
that is to be supported by the safety block:
- Add the total weight of the press
slide (RAM) assembly plus the upper die and all
components.
- Multiply this weight by 2 for a
safety factor.
- The resulting figure is the
amount of static weight the safety blocks will have
to support.
|
|
B. Determine the length of the
safety block required:
- Determine the die space of the press, sometimes
called the daylight, with slide up, adjustment up.
(SUAU) Establish the dimension of where the
die block will be placed, either between the slide
and the bolster, or in some cases with large dies,
between the upper and lower die half.
- Identify the stroke adjustment dimension of the
press. This figure, plus 1.0 inch additional
to allow for the press overrunning top stop, is then
subtracted from the figure in #1 above. This
will give the amount of adjustment needed in the die
block, from full closed to full open, or full down
to full up. (If placed between die halves, add
the difference between the smallest stack up
dimension and the biggest stack up dimension to the
adjustment length required.)
- In certain cases, fixed length die blocks can be
utilized. The proper length is determined in a
manner similar to #1 above. Up to 1.5" can be
deducted from the dimension if shims are used.

Protective End Caps
Designed to prevent damage to safety press blocks that
might reduce effective tonnage rating. Strongly recommended
on fixed length die blocks (both ends). One is
standard with adjustable length blocks.
Price per pair determined by size of
block. Contact Stampersstore.com

Power Cut-Off System In
storage: When the safety block is stored on the
side of the press with the safety plug connected to the
control circuit, the press is operative.
In use: When the safety block is
in the press bed area with the safety plug disconnected
from the control circuit, the press is inoperative.
This system complies with OSHA
Energy Lockout regulations.
